Chapter 18.  Using and Implementing Web Services

Summary

Visual Studio .NET is one of the most tangible products since the original Visual Basic. Web Services constitute the secret weapon in the .NET initiative. What developers ultimately will do with them is the great unknown. One thing for sure is that Web Services are flexible, powerful, and will change the landscape of Web applications and tools development significantly.

Chapter 18 demonstrated how to use the technologies surrounding Web Services to find, implement, and deploy Web Services. There are many tangential subjects that we did not have space to explore. Hopefully, the main message you take away from this chapter is that Web Services are accessible. You do not have to be a SOAP, WSDL, XSD, XML, or HTTP expert to build and use Web Services.

Granted, for very advanced problems you probably will need further exploration and you are encouraged to explore the help documentation and acquire additional books on specialized, tangential topics.
