Where to Go Next

SOME OF MY PERSONAL RECOMMENDATIONS ON WHERE TO GO NEXT TO CONTINUE YOUR CHANNELS LEARNING

Well, we've pretty much reached the end of the book, but that doesn't mean that your channels learning has to end. Photoshop users are constantly coming up with new inventive ways to use channels, and so I thought I'd share some of my favorite resources for learning more about channels, so you can continue to build on what you've learned in this book. Besides Dan Margulis' excellent Photoshop LAB Color book (which I talked about at the end of Chapter 5), I've got three other sources that I highly recommend to keep you on top of your game.

Idea 1.

WHERE TO LEARN MORE #1: KATRIN EISMANN'S PHOTOSHOP MASKING & COMPOSITING BOOK

The first is Katrin's book on masking and compositing (mentioned in Chapter 2). It's the finest book on the topic of masking and compositing, and if the masking part of this book really piqued your interest, you definitely want to check out her book, which is the bottom line on the topic, to learn even more. Its official name is Photoshop Masking & Compositing, by Katrin Eismann. It is published by New Riders (ISBN: 0735712794, $54.99), and you can find it wherever cool Photoshop books are sold.

Idea 2.

WHERE TO LEARN MORE #2: PHOTOSHOP USER MAGAZINE AND NAPP

Photoshop User magazine is the official publication of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (otherwise known as NAPP), and it's always got the latest info on channels, masking, selections, and everything to do with Photoshop. Each issue has loads of tutorials, tips, and Q&As from all the industry heavyweights, including people like Katrin Eismann, Dan Margulis, Deke McClelland, Ben Willmore, Jack Davis, Dave Cross, and yours truly (I'm Editor and Publisher of the mag). NAPP members get the mag free with their membership, along with loads of other up-to-date training. A one-year membership is $99 (US). Learn more at www.photoshopuser.com.

Idea 3.

WHERE TO LEARN MORE #3: THE PHOTOSHOP WORLD CONFERENCE & EXPO

Lastly, there's Photoshop World, where Photoshop users from around the world gather each year to learn from a world-class team of photographers, authors, and Photoshop industry professionals. I teach there (it's sponsored by Adobe, and produced by NAPP), as well as all the authors listed above, and just about any big name you can think of in the Photoshop community. It's a three-day Photoshop love fest and there are plenty of sessions on channels, advanced masking, channel effects, and well…you'll see channels used again and again throughout the conference. The conference is open to everyone, so visit www.photoshopworld.com for details. I hope to see you there.
