iChat AV: GETTING YOUR MESSAGES ONCE YOU'VE QUIT ICHAT

One of the coolest things about iChat AV is that you don't have to have it up and running to get instant messages. Start by launching iChat AV, then go under the iChat menu, choose Preferences, and click on the General icon. When the General options appear, turn on Show Status Bar in Menu Bar to add an iChat pop-up menu to your menu bar. In this menu, choose Available as your status. Back in the iChat Preferences, click on the Alerts icon, then under Event, choose Message Received. That way, iChat will notify you when you receive a message, so you can close it. Now, how will it alert you that a new message has been received? That's where the fun begins. Click the Speak Text checkbox and iChat will verbally tell you you've got a message (there's even a field for you to type in what you want it to say). If you're afraid that won't get your attention, click on the checkbox for Bounce Icon in the Dock. If that's still not enough notification, click the checkbox for Send Repetitive 110-Volt Electric Shocks Via Keyboard. (Okay, that last one isn't really in iChat, but don't ya think it should be?)
