iMovie HD: MAKING PRECISE EDITS TO YOUR EFFECTS

If you've applied an effect to a clip, you can edit the in/out points of the effect by dragging the slider, but if you know where you want your in/out points to be, you can enter those values yourself (instead of playing around with the sliders until you get the right settings). Just click on your clip in the Timeline (or Clip Viewer), click on the Effects button in the toolbar, then go up to the little effects preview, click on the Effect In (or Effect Out) numbers, and enter the values you want using your keyboard.
