HOW DO YOU WANT YOUR WINDOWS TO LOOK?

While most of Tiger's settings are done in the System Preferences dialog, you can set up how you want your windows to look by actually moving, stretching, adjusting, and generally setting up a window the way you want it manually, and then closing it. From that point on, all windows will follow the example of that default window. Here's how it's done: Start by pressing Command-N to open a New Finder Window (or if you changed this shortcut, as mentioned in a previous tip, press that shortcut). Now, the rest is up to youmake the window whichever size you'd like (grab the bottom-right corner and drag); leave the sidebar visible (or hide it by double-clicking the little dot on the divider bar); choose Icon, List, or Column view; click the white pill-shaped button in the top-right corner to hide the toolbar (or don't if you want to keep it); and when you're done tweaking things to your personal liking, don't do anything else (don't open any folders or launch a document)just close the window. That's ityou've set your new window preferences. By the wayyou can customize your hard disk's window the same way. (Note: If you set it to open List or Icon view, make sure that the Open New Windows in Column View checkbox in the General Finder Preferences is turned off.)
