STOPPING THE SOFTWARE AUTO-UPDATING MENACE

The idea is greatwhenever Apple releases even the tiniest update to your system software or any of the iApps, a window pops up to tell you that it's been released, and it even offers to download the software for you. The problem? It always, always opens at the wrong time: when you're on deadline, when you're 5 minutes from leaving the officereally, any time you don't want it to pop upit pops up. Personally, I'd rather decide to update at my leisure (once a week or so) rather than when my system feels it needs a fix. To turn off this Auto-Updating menace, go under the Apple menu to System Preferences. Click on the Software Update icon, and under the Update Software tab, make sure to turn off the Check for Updates checkbox. Or you can choose to be interrupted at the wrong time only once a month (from the pop-up menu). Either way, "another one bites the dust!"
