HOW TO STOP THE QUICKTIME PLAYER BLUES

Apple does listen sometimes because the QuickTime Player no longer automatically checks for updates when you launch it. If you don't believe me, go to the System Preferences in the Apple menu, under QuickTime, and click on the Update tab. Notice how the Check for Updates Automatically checkbox is deselected by default? Amazing, eh? Well, something that's still annoying is called the "Content Guide," and if you like pop-up windows and banner ads, you'll love this. If you launch the QuickTime Player while you have an Internet connection, before you can do anything else, it goes to the Web, downloads a little advertising clip (usually for a new album or movie), and plays it in your QuickTime Player. The good news is that you can turn this annoying "ad feed" off. Just launch the QuickTime Player, then go under the QuickTime menu, under Preferences, and in the General section turn off the Show Content Guide Automatically. Ahhhh, now isn't that better?
