HIDING, WELL EVERYTHING

HIDING, WELL…EVERYTHING!

Annoyance Factor 6: This is a great trick to pull on people who keep lots of stuff on their desktops. First, hide all open windows, then press Command-Shift-3 to take a screen shot of their entire desktop. Go to the System Preferences under the Apple menu and choose Desktop & Screen Saver. Click on the Desktop tab, then drag your screen capture into the preview well at the top left of the pane to make the screen capture their desktop. Close the System Preferences. Next, create a folder on their desktop and drag everything on the desktop into that folder and drag this folder into their Home folder (for safekeeping). Then, go under the Finder menu, under Preferences, and click on the General icon. Where it says Show These Items on the Desktop, uncheck Hard Disks, CDs, DVDs, and iPods, and Connected Servers. Now go under the Apple menu, under Dock, and choose Turn Hiding On. When they return, they can't click on anything (except the menu bar)all the icons, folders, hard disks, etc., appear frozen because they're seeing the desktop capture. Even if they figure out that it's a desktop pattern, when they remove it, their drives are still missing and the Dock is still hidden. This is one sweet prank.
