IF THEY PLAY MUSIC CDS, THIS WILL BE MUSIC TO YOUR EARS

Annoyance Factor 6: If you know a friend or co-worker listens to music CDs on their Mac, this is going to be music to your ears. Currently when they insert a music CD, by default it opens iTunes so they can play it. Makes sense. But that seems so routine. Wouldn't it be more fun if, instead of launching iTunes when they inserted a music CD, the Mac would quickly go to the Web, download the latest U.S. weather map, and then launch Preview and display this map? No music. Just a map. If they pop it out and try again, they get another map. And another and another. It's map mania! Here's how it's done: Go to the System Preferences under the Apple menu, and click on CDs & DVDs. When those preferences appear, from the pop-up menu where it says "When you insert a music CD," choose Run Script. Then, in the resulting dialog, navigate to the Applications folder, click on the AppleScript folder, and inside of that click on Example Scripts. Then click on the URLs folder where you can finally click on Download Weather Map.scpt and click the Choose button. Of course, this is just a start. Tomorrow, try a different script. Maybe a printing script or a mail script. The mind reels.
