REMOVING THE DASHBOARD ICON FROM THE DOCK

If you find that you're always using the F12 key on your keyboard to bring up Dashboard, there's not much reason to keep its icon down in your Dock, just taking up space. However, you can't just drag Dashboard off the Dock like other applications. Instead, you have to click-and-hold (or Control-click) on the Dashboard icon in the Dock and choose Remove From Dock from the pop-up menu that appears. If you remove Dashboard from the Dock, there are two ways to get it back: The hard way: If you're pretty comfortable with the Terminal application, you can execute a "Kill" command to actually quit Dashboard, then you'll need to go to the Applications folder and double-click on the Dashboard icon to restart it, which will put the icon back in the Dock. The easy way: You can drag the Dashboard icon from the Applications folder down to the Dock like you can with other apps.
