SEARCHING WITHOUT A PARTICULAR WORD

Let's say you have a bunch of friends and they're all named Scott, but you want to throw a surprise party for your best friend, Scott Kelby. So, you need to find all your Scott contacts so you can send them invitations, but you don't want to include Kelby, because, hey, it's a surprise. In that case, you'd use an exclamation point (or minus sign) as the word "not" (with the exclamation point directly left of the word you don't want searched, with no space in between), and then put parentheses around that word. So, your search would look like this: "Scott(!Kelby)" (without quotations). That way, it searches for all files with Scott in them, but it will exclude any contacts with the name Kelby. Note: Doing this will limit Spotlight's searches to exclude file names, folder names, etc.
