Back in Photoshop 7, if you made a copy of the Background layer (the fastest way is just to press Command-J [PC: Control-J]), the copy you made was locked (meaning you couldn't move it without unlocking it first). Well, Command-J (PC: Control-J) is still the fastest way to duplicate the Background layer, but in Photoshop CS, Adobe made things faster by automatically unlocking the Background layer for you.
