The migration approach includes selecting a Web project to migrate and making changes in the ASP code so that post-migration changes in ASP.NET code are minimal. We have seen in the previous chapter that the important considerations leading to the correct choice of a project for migration include system requirements for scalability and stability and application architecture. After the project is selected, a migration strategy should be chosen ; this can be either vertical migration or a horizontal migration strategy, as discussed in the previous chapter.

We also saw guidelines for code changes (or best practices) in the existing ASP application and modifications required for the security settings. In this chapter we will begin by discussing how to create an ASP.NET Web application that contains all the .asp files to be migrated . The actual migration of code is divided into categories based on functionalities, and this will be covered across two chapters.
