Release a Mask

When you use an object as a mask, you permanently wipe out any fill and/or outline you applied to that object before you applied it as a mask. You can unlink the masking object and the masked object so that the masked object will resume its original appearance. But the masking object will become a path with no outline or fill.

To remove a mask from an object, select the combined masked object. Choose Object Clipping Mask Release, as shown in Figure 13-8. After you detach the masking object from the previously masked object, you can create a new fill and outline for the object that was the masking object.
