Post-Upgrade Tasks

 < Day Day Up >

Just as this chapter began by outlining some of the more important premigration tasks that you need to consider before upgrading an SMS 2.0 site to SMS 2003, it now ends with a checklist of post-upgrade tasks that you should consider performing as part of your overall migration strategy:

  • Revisit the converted database Perform consistency checks, back up the database, and test the restore process.

  • Configure site settings Configure site boundaries, enable and configure discovery methods, enable and configure client installation methods, enable and configure the client agents, and identify site systems and assign appropriate roles.

  • Upgrade the SMS 2.0 clients to either the SMS 2003 Legacy Client or the Advanced Client If you install a new SMS 2003 site, you can migrate your existing SMS 2.0 clients by enabling one of the client installation methods described in Chapter 7, “Resource Discovery.” However, when you upgrade an existing SMS 2.0 site to SMS 2003, by default, SMS 2.0 clients that are supported by SMS 2003 will automatically be upgraded to the Legacy Client. However, for systems running Windows 2000 and higher, the SMS 2003 Advanced Client is the preferred client. It’s strongly recommended that you upgrade these clients to the Advanced Client as soon as possible after the site upgrade to take advantage of the enhanced security, Active Directory directory service usage, and other benefits that the Advanced Client provides.

  • Review your security needs Configure appropriate object class and instance security for the upgraded site.
