This chapter explored the ins and outs of the installation process for an SMS primary site server. We took a close look at the prerequisite issues involved in planning your installation, including not only domain and network considerations but also hardware and software requirements. We have thoroughly examined the installation process itself, highlighting changes made to the server through services loaded; files, folders, and shares created; and registry keys added. You've even learned how to remove SMS from the server if the need arises.
Chapter 3 focuses on the different functional roles that the site server and other identified site systems can assume. We'll define these roles and examine how to assign them to servers within our growing SMS site. Then in Chapter 4 we'll look at how to link SMS sites to create a management hierarchy.
