Just as the implementation and installation of a new SMS 2.0 site requires more than a little thought and planning to be successful, in this chapter we've seen that at least as much thought and planning is necessary when migrating an existing SMS 1.2 site structure to SMS 2.0. Perhaps all your SMS 1.2 sites will be migrated. Perhaps circumstances will necessitate planning for and maintaining a mixed SMS 1.2 and SMS 2.0 environment. Whatever your needs may be, the more effort and thought you put into creating a migration strategy, the more successful and, perhaps even more important, the more uneventful your upgrade will be.
In the next and final chapter, we will look at how SMS 2.0 fits into a Windows 2000 environment and how SMS can be used to deploy Windows 2000.
