There are several tools you'll be using as you edit in Avid Xpress Pro. These tools can be accessed individually or as a set. One of the menu items is Toolset. The very first option is Basic. This is the default toolset used when you first log into Avid. Although it's possible to edit in the Basic toolset, an even better toolset is available. It's the third option down, called Source/Record Editing. This toolset changes the layout of your Composer window. Now you'll see two windows . A source window, which displays your clips, and a record window, which displays any sequences. The chapters throughout the rest of the book use the Source/Record Editing toolset when editing.
Once you decide how you want the Composer window, the Timeline, your Project window, and the bins to be displayed, you can save your preferences by selecting Save Current from the Toolset menu.
NOTE
TIP
The toolsets also have shortcuts for Mac OS users. You can access each toolset by using the following Mac-only shortcuts:
Shift+F7Basic toolset
Shift+F8Color Correction toolset
Shift+F9Source/Record toolset
Shift+F10Effects Editing toolset
Shift+F11Audio Editing toolset
Shift+F12Recording toolset
