Saving and Sending a Draft Message

You can't always complete an e-mail message without being interrupted by someone or something. Or perhaps you want to mull over what you've said for a while and make a few changes to the wording before you send the message. Fortunately, you can save your message in its incomplete form and then return to it when you're ready, finish it, and send it on its way.

Create a Draft

In Windows Mail, create a new message, address it, add a subject, and write your content.

Choose Save from the File menu.

If a message box appears, click OK.

Continue working on the message, choosing Save from the File menu occasionally. When you need to stop, click the Close button.

Tip

Even if you're able to complete a lengthy message in one sitting, you'll probably want to save it occasionally just as a precaution. If you close a partially completed message without sending it, Windows Mail will ask you whether you want to save a draft.

Send the Draft

Open the Drafts folder. If the Folder list isn't displayed, click the Folder List button to display the list.

Double-click the draft message to open it.

Complete the message, and click Send to send it. Note that it's automatically deleted from the Drafts folder.
