Upgrading Windows Vista

If your edition of Windows Vista doesn't have all the features you want, you can easily (for a price) upgrade to a more comprehensive version. When you upgrade, all your files and programs will remain untouched, and you'll find that you can do a lot more things on your computer.

Upgrade

Back up all your personal files and settings before you start the upgrade. Then click the Start button, type upgrade in the Search box, and click Windows Anytime Upgrade to open the Windows Anytime Upgrade window.

Click this option to determine which features you'll gain by upgrading.

Use the Upgrade Comparison Chart to compare features.

If you decide to upgrade, click the Choose button to choose the version of Windows Vista that you want, and, in the Upgrade window that appears, click Begin Upgrade Process. (To upgrade, you must already have a version of Windows Vista installed, and the computer must be capable of running the version you're upgrading to. If you have any doubts, download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor, available at microsoft.com.)

Follow the instructions on the Web page to purchase the upgrade, and then download and run the installation software. When prompted, insert your Windows Anytime Upgrade disc. If you don't have a disc, use the instructions on the Web page to obtain one.
