In this chapter, we investigated artificial life (Alife) by simulating a very simple food web. Alife provides a platform for the study of a variety of different phenomena within biological and social systems. The greatest strength of Alife in the field of synthetic ethology is the ability to play "what-if' games by changing the variables of the simulation and monitoring their effects. We demonstrated the concepts of synthetic ethology using a very simple predator/prey simulation, which resulted in interesting strategies by both predator and prey.
