Chapter 8. Choosing Blocks

Blocks are those cuddly little sections of content running up and down the left and right sides of each PHP-Nuke page. Blocks provide a way to get more content right in front of your users' faces, acting as a sort of teaser to additional sections of your site, or maybe just providing some useful sideline-style functions.

Before I even tell you what blocks are available, though (and no fair peeking on your own), I want to offer some advice: When it comes to blocks, less is more. I've visited PHP-Nuke sites where the number of blocks is so high that the page is three times longer than the content in the middle of the page. Nobody is going to scroll down to see all that. As a general rule, your blocks shouldn't extend much past the end of whatever's in the middle of the page (the module content, that is).

So, with moderation in mind, let's talk about how you work with blocks.
