Comments, Graphics, and Miscellaneous Options

Comments are a feature that allows users to leave a short note in your online polls or articles. You actually enable or disable comments in the Miscellaneous Options section, which I'll get to in a second; in the Comments Moderation section, you get to decide how comments will be administered. With No Moderation, comments are posted as they're made; you can also select a level of moderation that requires someone to approve comments before they're posted. In the Comments Options section, you can set the maximum size for comments and the default name a comment is attributed to. The default maximum comment size, 4,096 bytes, is roughly one page of single-spaced, typewritten text, or about 650 words. Roughly, 1 byte equals one letter, so you can decide for yourself what the average word length will be and do the math from there.

If you don't like the graphical Administration menu and would prefer to have a faster-loading all-text version, just select No for the Graphics in Administration Menu? option.

There are four Miscellaneous options (spelled "Miscelaneous" in PHP-Nuke):

  • Activate HTTP Referrers. This tracks each referrer to your Web site, allowing you to view them in one giant list.

  • You can set the maximum number of referrers stored in the database, up to a maximum of 2,000.

  • You can allow users to leave comments in polls and surveys.

  • You can allow users to leave comments in your posted articles.
