Summary

 < Day Day Up >

In this chapter, we investigated a variety of advanced features not typically encountered in everyday Sockets applications. Some of the techniques discussed include out-of-band data with TCP, using nonblocking socket semantics, how to determine peer socket closure, writing services for multi-homed nodes, timing out connects, reads, and writes using the select function, data framing with TCP and UDP, and identifying service ports and protocols.
