The talent officer in your business

I made it clear in Chapter 7 that one of HR's responsibilities is the search for talent inside and outside the organisation. In terms of what happens next , the appointment of talent officers has to be on the list. We cannot afford not to have someone in this role, whose job is to discover talent for the business and also uncover hidden talent inside. Good talent managers are a net gain to the organisation in both money and time. By knowing where to look, they save recruiting time. By knowing who is ready to ˜fly the coop', and preventing it by making sure they are re-engaged, they increase retention rates and thereby save on recruitment costs. You don't have to call them talent managers, but they are needed more than ever in today's complex world. The talent manager can also support, train and mentor those divisional or unit people managers, underscoring an organisation's commitment to employee excellence.

That is where I see the future emphasis being laid. All these things are critical and all of them will impact on the types of people we employ , or more importantly who choose to come and work with us.
