Working with outsourced employees

Working with outsourced ˜ employees '

This trend has been building for some years and might have got a little side-tracked in the recession , but it is coming back fast. By outsourced employees, I mean those that you do not directly control. This area is set to grow quickly now that companies once again need more people. There is a mounting body of evidence that companies are not going to go on massive hiring sprees. Instead they will turn to professional people outsourcers, like Adecco and Manpower, to provide the required staff. What is important for your organisation here - apart from the need to ensure you get the all-important agreements with the outsourcing firm correct (see box on p142) - is to make sure you have managers in place who can manage people who are not on your payroll. This calls for negotiation and persuasion skills and obviously good people management. Once again, the development of successful people managers becomes vital .

Hire and hold the oldies

Got a plan for the over-50s? You need one - now . We are going to run out of talent pretty quickly, so the over-50s who want to work may well be our saviour. However, as I have pointed out elsewhere in the book, treat them in the right way and use them for their talents - don't let them get in the way of new talent eager to move up.
