The talent agent finally arrives


The talent agent's arrival has been touted for years . Now they have arrived. Not too many at present but watch them develop. Their starting base has been in the interim management business. Interim management is now not just a respectable industry in which to be - it meets perfectly the lifestyle/workstyle wishes on the new-age employee. Why? It creates choice and freedom. There is always someone ready to employ talent, especially when you can send it back when you don't need it.

These employees are very flexible. Contracts rarely run beyond nine months, at which time they can choose to disengage for a time or leap back into the working world. Those currently running interim management firms - and they are increasing daily - are the new talent agents and they are meeting the needs of both sides and that's what makes good business. On one side, a company gets a qualified person with no need for training and who can be immediately effective and doesn't cost the earth to remove where their usefulness is over. On the other side, the interim executive gets flexibility and the opportunity to do the lifestyle things they want between assignments.

Expect a lot more employees to opt for this sort of working life in the years to come.
