Checking for Inconsistent Formatting

By default, Word does not automatically check for inconsistent formatting as you create documents. To instruct Word to mark the document for inconsistent formatting, and also to check documents that you have already prepared for inconsistent formatting, you need to change editing options in the Options dialog box. Word will automatically detect any inconsistent format elements and mark them with a blue wavy underline.

Change Editing Options

Click the Tools menu _' and then click Options.

Click the Edit tab.

Select the Keep Track Of Formatting check box.

Select the Mark Formatting Inconsistencies check box.

Click OK.

The formatting inconsistencies are indicated by a blue wavy underline.

Change Inconsistent Formatting

In the document, right-click any wavy, blue line to open a list of Formatting commands.

Click the appropriate choice based on the error in the text to make the necessary correction.

• Replace Direct Formatting With Style or Replace List Formatting With Style

• Ignore Once

• Ignore Rule
