Starting an Office Program

The two quickest ways to start any Office program are to select an Office program on the Start menu or double-click a shortcut icon on the desktop. By providing different ways to start a program, Office lets you work the way you like and start programs with a click of a button. When you start an Office program, a program window opens, displaying a blank document, where you can create a new document or open an existing one.

Start an Office Program from the Start Menu

Click the Start button on the taskbar.

Point to All Programs.

Point to Microsoft Office.

Click the Office 2003 program you want to open.

The first time you start Office, an Activation Wizard opens; follow the instructions to activate the product.

Did You Know?

You can create a program shortcut from the Start menu . Click the Start menu, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, right-click a program, point to Send To, and then click Desktop (Create Shortcut).

You can start any Office program and open a document from Windows Explorer . Double-clicking any Office document icon in Windows Explorer opens that file and its associated program.
