Sharing a Printer

If you have a printer connected to your computer and your computer is connected to a network, you can share your printer with other network users. Before you can share a printer, you need to turn on printer sharing using the Network Setup Wizard, which you can accomplish by using the Sharing tab in the Printer Properties dialog box. After you share a printer, the printer icon appears with a hand in the Printers and Faxes window.

Share a Printer

Click the Start button, and then click Printers And Other Hardware (Home) or Printers And Faxes (Pro).

Right-click the printer you want to share, and then click Sharing.

TROUBLE ? If sharing options are not available, click the link, and then follow the instructions to turn on print sharing.

Click the Share This Printer option.

Type a name for the printer (eight characters recommended), or use the suggested one.

If other computers on the network don't use Windows XP or Windows 2000, click Additional Drivers to install other drivers for them.

Select the check boxes for the operating systems you want.

Click OK.

If prompted, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD-ROM drive or provide a driver location, and then click OK.
