Modifying Links

When you modify a linked object, it is usually updated in the destination document. However, you can choose to update the link manually. All Office 2003 programs give you control over the links you have established. You can change the source file and you can break a link at any time. You can also convert a linked object to another object type.

Update Links

Open the presentation that contains the links you want to update.

Click the Edit menu, and then click Links.

Click the link you want to update.

Click Update Now.

Click Close.

Change the Source of a Linked Object

Click the Edit menu, and then click Links.

Click the link whose source you want to change.

Click Change Source.

Locate and double-click the new source file.

Click Close.

Did You Know?

You can edit an embedded object in the source program . Double-click the embedded object to open it, and make the changes you want. If you edit the object in the source program, click the File menu, and then click Exit to return to the destination file.

Break a Link

Click the Edit menu, and then click Links.

Click the link you want to break.

graphics/three_icon.jpg Click Break Link.

The link no longer appears in the Links dialog box.

Click Close.

Convert a Linked Object

Click the linked object whose file type you want to convert.

Click the Edit menu, and then point to Linked Object. This command might appear as Linked Chart Object, or some other file type, depending on the object type.

Click Convert.

Click the new object type you want.

Click OK.

Did You Know?

You can reconnect a broken link . After you break the connection to a linked object, you must reinsert the object into your presentation to reconnect.
