Creating a Diagram

A diagram is a collection of shapes that illustrates conceptual material. Excel 2003 offers a variety of built-in diagrams from which to choose, including pyramid, cycle, radial, and Venn diagrams as well as organization charts. Using built-in diagrams makes it easy to create and modify charts without having to create them from scratch. You can customize different parts of the diagram the same way you modify the shapes you create using the Drawing toolbar.

Create a New Diagram

Click the Insert menu, and then click Diagram.

Select a diagram.

Click OK.

Click anywhere outside of the diagram to return to the document.

Did You Know?

You can use a toolbar button to insert a diagram . Click the Insert Diagram Or Organization Chart button on the Drawing toolbar to insert a diagram.

Modify a Diagram

Select the diagram you want to modify.

Select the diagram element you want to modify.

Use the Diagram toolbar to format the diagram. You may be asked to turn on AutoFormat.

• Click the Insert Shape button to insert a shape. You can use the Delete key to remove a shape.

• Click the Move Shape Forward, Move Shape Backward, or Reverse Diagram buttons to move shapes around.

• Click the Layout button to change the diagram size.

• Click AutoFormat button to change formats.

• Click Change To to select a different diagram.

Click the placeholder "Click to add text," and then type to add text.

Click anywhere outside of the diagram to return to the document.
