Another aspect to focus on when considering ways to grow profit centers is the use of technology in every subsection of the company. Automating processes wherever possible through the use of information technology can create an enormous impact on profits as a whole. The better documented and automated our processes are, the less it costs us to deliver our products and services to our customers. This means utilizing things like EDI interfaces with our key trading partners and customers. This facilitates lower inventory levels and virtual warehousing.

At Accucode, we are also working to put a knowledge management system in place that will allow us to distribute what we learn from every customer project to everyone in the organization who might ever need it. In addition, we use a Voice-over-IP telephony system that reduces our telecommunications and infrastructure cost. Infiltrating technology into the basic operations of a company can vastly improve efficiency, and thus, the bottom line. In fact, this is the piece of business advice that I find myself most often sharing with other clients and customers: Use information technology and process automation to get more out of the resources you have and to gain a competitive advantage over the competition.
