  • Increasing profits means always looking at your costs, ensuring that they dont increase along with inflation. One way to do this is to re-organize to allow sharing of back office and administrative resources, while allowing customer facing and operations organizations to focus on the needs to market place.

  • Make sure that you have documented quality processes that allow new employees to be trained quickly; this will ensure that you have a profitable business throughout years .

  • Try out new ideas and make sure you reward new endeavors, even if they are not huge successes.

  • Top-grade your organization and make sure you have A Players that are on top of their game, and then continue to challenge them.

  • Make sure you always have good reputation with your customers. Do whatever it takes to keep this relationship solid.

Ranjit Singh was appointed CEO of TechBooks in February 2004, and since May 2002, when he joined the company's board of directors, has been involved in creating growth strategies for TechBooks.

Ranjit is a renowned business leader in the content, media and outsourcing fields. His pioneering efforts in these industries have most recently been demonstrated at Xerox Corporation, Citigroup, ContentGuard and thePlatform. He is a respected industry expert, often asked to speak at various forums, including The Wharton School. Ranjit is also the chairman of the board at Ultralife Batteries, Inc.; was previously a member of the XaQti board of directors and instrumental in its acquisition by Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation; and, since 1998, has been an invited guest of The Aspen Institute's Roundtable on Information Technology.

Ranjit held several positions at Xerox including senior vice president and general manager of iXerox (Xerox's Internet business unit), general manager of its document/knowledge management software solutions and services business, chairman of the Xerox solutions committee and as a member of the corporate technology board. He was also instrumental in establishing ContentGuard (a Xerox/Microsoft joint venture providing products and solutions for secure Web distribution and content management), where he served as the company's chief operating officer and a member of the board of directors. During his tenure, he built a worldwide team of over 400, was responsible for annual revenues of more than $2 billion and creating and implementing internet strategies and operating methodologies.

While at Citigroup, Ranjit was awarded Service News Magazine's "Most Innovative Service Award" for designing and implementing the largest change to Citicorp's global technology management structure. His work reduced the total cost of ownership by more than 20% per desktop while increasing product delivery times by standardizing the infrastructure. He initiated, defined and directed Citicorp's largest outsourcing effort at that time, which resulted in the selection of two global vendors with contracts in excess of $500 million.

Directly prior to joining TechBooks, Ranjit served as CEO of the Platform, a Herndon, VA-based firm providing solutions for the management of Internet streaming media. His career spans more than two decades as a senior executive and entrepreneur in the software and networking industries, working for Data General, Digital Equipment Corporation and as co-founder of a packet switching company that was later sold.

Ranjit holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Bath, United Kingdom, and a master's degree in business administration from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, MA. He and his family reside in Potomac, MD, where he is active in community organizations.
