All People are Key People

In regard to maintaining an organized, efficient structure, you should also keep in mind the need for and importance of every aspect. We must add value at every phase of the business, from exploration to production to lease acquisition to marketing to administration to financefrom people generating ideas to those implementing them. Anyone who contributes to the business, in any way, is important to the company as a whole. Too many companies focus on one key discipline. All are critical in different ways, and this concept applies to any business. Our company, like the majority of others, shows how the numerous areas are essential not only as isolated categories but also as interconnected entities that merge to form a business.

There are always a variety of workers that make any business possible. For example, we rely on people with differing specialties and functions: geoscientists, drilling and completion engineers, production engineers, landmen, marketing people, administrators, and financial people are just a few of the categories. Every business has certain needs that are met by people of different fields, depending on the particular trade. A creative force is essential for every business, and for us this comes from the geoscientists who generate geologic ideas. The engineering, marketing, and administrative people use these concepts and can implement or stop progress, while the finance people must obtain the funds and provide reporting to help the business run properly. In addition, sourcing opportunities is important. People on the acquisition and finance side of the business source investment opportunities through corporate and investment banker contacts. There is also the need for people who can design the drilling program and purchase the necessary materials in an economic fashion. If your business involves physical labor, these workers must be just as capable as the people on the administrative and financial end. For instance, we expect our engineers must drill and complete their projects efficiently and at a low cost.

The people who oversee the subsets of a company can ensure that these complex mechanisms combine to form a constructive system. In this respect, I would say that the regional district managers are critical to business as their regions create the biggest portion of the value of the business. They deploy capital, manage production, and supervise the many aforementioned components of business within defined areas.
