Dreamweaver Help for XHTML

I just don't understand all this XHTML stuff. I need help!

There are several interesting ways that Dreamweaver MX shows its support for XHTML in terms of documentation. Open the Help section of Dreamweaver by selecting Help, Using Dreamweaver. After you're in the Help interface, click the Search tab and type XHTML into the search keyword field. Of special interest is the "About the XHTML Code Generated by Dreamweaver."

Using External Editors

I know Dreamweaver MX has a lot of options for working with markup, but I'm used to using a specific editor. Can I use an external editor with Dreamweaver?

Integrating external HTML editors for use with Dreamweaver is a very easy process. In fact, Homesite is distributed along with Dreamweaver for precisely this purpose.

Browsers and the id Attribute

I inadvertently used id instead of class . It kept working, so I didn't realize I was doing something wrong. How'd this happen?

Despite the fact that IDs are supposed to be used only once in a document, browsers tend to forgive this. Therefore, you might see multiple IDs relating to the same rule in documents that render just as if the ID selector were a class selector. This is, however, not valid, and you will get errors when you go to validate such a document ”to say nothing of causing problems with scripts that expect valid markup.

Font Concerns

I set up a style sheet to control my fonts, yet the faces I chose are not appearing. Why is this?

Although fonts can be easily controlled by style sheets, CSS falls under the same limitation as HTML in font delivery: Namely, the specific typeface must be available on the computer viewing your page. As with the font element, style sheets allow you to stack font groups to maximize the possibility that a visitor's browser will be capable of seeing your text as you designed.
