Enhanced Support for Dynamic Platforms

If you are planning to work with any of the various dynamic Web servers such as ColdFusion, Active Server Pages (ASP), ASP.NET, JavaServer Pages, or PHP, Dreamweaver continues to make things easy.

ColdFusion developers should be happy with the inclusion of several new features in Dreamweaver MX 2004. Dreamweaver now includes the latest release of HomeSite+, which provides complete support for ColdFusion 6.1 tags and includes a new Macro recorder for automating repetitive tasks . In addition, time-saving features such as the enhanced Snippet panel and siteless file editing have been integrated as well.

To learn what happened to support for UltraDev 4 ColdFusion server objects, see "Where Are The UltraDev 4 CF Server Objects? " in the "Troubleshooting" section at the end of this chapter, page 70 .

If ASP.NET is your platform of choice, you'll be happy to know that Dreamweaver MX 2004 fully supports ASP.NET 1.1. Using the Dreamweaver Server Behaviors, you can quickly connect your pages to a database, develop ASP.NET Webforms, and even create your own custom tags.

JavaServer Pages are also fully supported in the latest release of Dreamweaver. In addition, you can create a connection between Dreamweaver and JavaBeans to access the various JavaBean properties within Dreamweaver.

As the popularity of PHP continues to grow among Web developers, Macromedia has enhanced Dreamweaver's support for this platform. PHP developers can take advantage of many of the server behaviors that were previously available for other platforms, such as authenticating users, dynamic page navigation, and the quick creation of Master-Detail page sets.

NOTE

Although ASP.NET is slowly replacing Active Server Pages as Microsoft's dynamic platform, additional features to support ASP 3.0 have not been included in the latest version of Dreamweaver. It is possible, however, to create or download custom extensions to Dreamweaver that support ASP 3.0
