New Effects

Contour Gradients

The contour gradient from FreeHand is now available in its suite-mate, Fireworks. A contour gradient follows the outline of a shape, applying the gradient effect to match the shape itself. Although the effect works best on complex shapes , the basic examples in Figure 24.10 should give you an inkling of what can be done with contour gradients.

Figure 24.10. Fireworks MX 2004 now enables you to apply contour gradients to objects.

Dashed Strokes

At long last, Fireworks now offers the capability to create dotted and dashed lines. No more typing in dashes or custom strokes to create these frequently used lines. Simply choose from six varieties of dashed and dotted lines, as shown in Figure 24.11.

Add Noise Live Effect

The new Add Noise Live Effect brings your art closer to the world of hand rendering. Applying a bit of noise to an image that you created with vector tools can give the image a more natural look (see Figure 24.12).
