Troubleshooting

I'm modifying an existing .fla file to use AS2 syntax, and although I'm not getting any compiler errors, my program is not working as expected either! I think I'm doing everything right, but it's not working right!

If you modify an existing .fla file to use AS2 syntax, make sure AS2 is specified in the Publish Settings (File, Publish Settings). If it's not, the file may compile incorrectly, although Flash may not generate compiler errors. (Or it may generate compiler errors even though everything seems to be correct in your program.)

The problem here is that when you open a file created in a previous version of Flash, the Publish Settings are automatically set to match the file that you open , meaning it will always be ActionScript 1 and a version of the Player previous to 7. If you use features that require ActionScript 2 or Flash Player 7, problems result.

Hey, where's the Scale and Rotate Dialog?

For reasons best known to Macromedia, the Scale and Rotate Dialog was removed from from Flash MX 2004. In its place, Macromedia substituted nothing. The Scale and Rotate dialog enables you to use keyboard input to do precise relative scaling and rotation. For instance, you could click on a movie clip and then rotate it exactly 60 ° and scale to exactly 150% of its previous size .

Luckily, Z Fernando, an intrepid Brazilian programmer (http://www.fatorcaos.com.br), created a substitute dialog in JSFL:
