Chapter 7: Mapping WarDrives Using StumbVerter

 < Day Day Up >

Introduction

You have gone for a WarDrive. You now have a set of logged access points with their coordinates and other relevant data, and you think, “How am I going to make some use of this? How will I be able to see patterns in the geographical distribution of access points?” Mapping your data sets may be the answer.

There are several ways to map data. StumbVerter is a tool that’s designed to take advantage of the automation capabilities of Microsoft MapPoint. MapPoint is commercially available mapping software that covers North America and Europe. StumbVerter processes data captured with NetStumbler and generates maps that you can easily view and manipulate. You can also access online mapping engines that create maps for you free of charge. In this chapter we discuss the process of installing, configuring, and using StumbVerter to map your WarDriving results as well as using the Delphi Geographic Logging Engine (DiGLE). By the end of the chapter, you will know how to create colorful and informative access point distribution maps.
