Debugging Issues

There is a lot of code being used to drive the site. The problem with code is that one rarely gets it perfect the first time. Thus, debugging is a process that should occur throughout development. It is important to help you find errors in your code and retrace your steps. A good rule of thumb is to debug every page of a dynamic site.

The second rule is: "Leave debugging to the pros." If you are not at the expert coding level and you have experts coding the site, leave the debugging in their capable hands.

Many of the Studio MX 2004 applications that generate code have a debugging capability. A complete explanation of how to debug the code in each of the applications is well out of the scope of this book. Instead, we are going to briefly review the debuggers included in ColdFusion MX, Dreamweaver MX 2004, Flash MX 2004, and Director MX.
