Chapter 10. Captivate & Macromedia Flash MX 2004If ever there were two Macromedia applications just made for each other, it would have to be Captivate and Flash MX 2004. Both output to the SWF format, both are interactive, and both are used in eLearning. As well, Captivate's EXE format is a Flash EXE and, like Flash, a Captivate SWF can be used easily in Breeze. On the other side of the relationship, Flash SWF files that are compatible with Flash Player 6 can be placed into Captivate movies as animations or as animation slides. An obvious question: "Why should I export a Captivate movie to Flash?" The answer lies in Captivate's enabling technology: Flash Player 6. The latest version of the Flash Playerversion 7.0allows, for example, streaming rich media such as video. In Captivate, video can't be added efficiently to your Captivate movie. If the movie is exported to Flash MX 2004, suddenly video is doable because the movie can be published using the Flash Player 7. Also, through the use of ActionScript 2.0, Flash's scripting language, you can extend the functionality of your Captivate movie to include, for example, dynamic delivery of content into a Captivate movie published in Flash. Captivate will export only to either Flash MX 2004 or Flash MX Professional 2004. If you own a copy of Flash MX or versions of Flash prior to Flash MX, you will not be able to import Captivate files into Flash. Also, if your Captivate movie contains Question slides, these slides will not import into Flash. Obviously, fully exploring the potential relationship between Flash and Captivate is well beyond the scope of this book. Instead, this chapter sticks to the basics and shows you how to:
