Adjusting Audio on the Timeline


You can use the Captivate timeline for a couple of specific audio tasks, including:

  • Have the audio file's duration match that of another object, such as a caption on the timeline.

  • Adjust the slide's duration to match the audio.

  • Remove audio from the slide.

To move audio to a new position on the timeline

1.

In the Edit View panel, open a slide containing audio.

2.

Open the timeline.

The audio file is on a separate layer.

3.

Select the audio object and drag it to its new location on the timeline (Figure 6.22).

4.

Release the mouse.

To remove audio from the timeline

1.

In the Edit View panel, open a slide containing audio.

2.

Open the timeline.

The audio file is on a separate layer.

3.

Select the audio object and press the Delete key.

An alert box opens, asking you to confirm your decision.

4.

Click Yes.

Matching the duration of an object to a sound

You can't adjust the timing of an audio object on the timeline by selecting it and dragging an edge inwards or outwards. However, you can shorten the duration of an object to match that of a sound.

To match the duration of an object to a sound

1.

Open the timeline and place the cursor over the sound in the timeline.

Note the duration and start time values in the resulting tool tip (Figure 6.23).

2.

Double-click the caption to which the sound will be attached.

The Caption Properties dialog box opens.

3.

Click the Options tab and set the display time to match that of the sound's duration.

4.

Set the caption's Appear After value to match that of the sound.

5.

Click OK.

The caption is placed precisely over the sound, and its duration matched the sound's duration precisely.
