Summary

In this chapter, you logged in to the Linux desktop environment for the first time. You learned to identify and use the components of an application window, including

  • The application title bar, which indicates focus and provides a convenient way to move or activate a window

  • The Minimize Window and Maximize Window buttons, which provide ways to hide a window or cause it to fill the entire display

  • The Close Window button, which enables you to exit an application and remove its window

  • The resize handles, which appear at the bottom of an application window and enable you to change its size

You also began to use menubar to launch applications and gained some experience using the taskbar and workspace switcher to switch between running applications and virtual workspaces.

Finally, you logged back out again, learning how to save the your application windows and their locations if you want to have them automatically restored the next time you log back in to your Fedora Core 4 desktop.
