Q&A

Q1:

My computer system has a slower processor or less memory than is suggested. I am a patient person. Can't I install Fedora Core 4 anyway, even if it's slow?

A1:

No. A 386 or 486 processor will certainly get there in the end if simple arithmetic is the only task at hand. However, an older processor or a limited amount of memory is usually indicative of an entire system full of older, slower components not suitable for modern desktop-oriented tasks such as web browsing.

Q2:

I've heard that Linux can be installed "on top of" a Windows file system, thereby eliminating the need to repartition. Is this true?

A2:

Several Linux operating systems are designed to be installed within a Windows file system. However, there are problems with such installations, not the least of which are poor performance and lack of stability. If you're serious about Linux, you should give Linux its own partitions.
