Chapter 21. Managing High-Quality Documents at the Command Line

What You'll Learn in This Chapter:

  • How to print from the command line

  • How to create professional-quality documents using LaTeX-2e

  • How to format documents you've created with LaTeX-2e for your printer

Over the past few chapters, you learned to use the command line to perform basic file manipulation and data housekeeping tasks and use two popular command-line text editors. You also learned how to get command and application documentation when you need it. In this chapter, you learn to format and print professional-quality documents using a powerful application called LaTeX-2e.

You May Need to Install LaTeX First!

If you didn't choose the Workstation installation of Fedora Core 4 in Chapter 2, "Installing Fedora Core 4," you don't yet have LaTeX installed on your system. If this is true in your case, you should install LaTeX before proceeding with this chapter.

Refer to Chapter 31, "Installing Linux Software," for help installing additional Linux software from your CDs. To follow along with this chapter, you need to install the "Authoring and Publishing" package ground.
