Adding a New User

During an initial installation, Supervisor allows you to import usernames from a text file or to create users individually. To create a new user individually:

  1. Position your mouse on the root group or the member group where you want to add the user.

  2. Click Create New User. Refer to Table 12-4 for a complete list of Supervisor button and shortcut keys.

    New User

    Create a new user.

    New Group

    Create a new group.

    User/Group Properties

    Modify the user or group properties, including passwords and login times.

    Disable/Enable User

    Toggle to disable and enable user login. You may want to use this when employees may be absent for an extended period or if an employee leaves the company but you wish to keep that employee's usage history.

    Add to Group

    Add the user to a group.

    or ctrl-e

    Link Universe

    Grant a group or individual user access to a universe.

    or ctrl-d

    Link Document

    Grant a group or individual user access to a document.

    Resource Properties

    >Modify the resource properties, similar to the universe parameters screen in Designer.

    Disable/Enable Resource

    Toggle to disable a configuration, universe, stored procedure, document, or repository. Use this to make the resource temporarily unavailable to all users for system maintenance.

    Manage Categories

    Create and modify categories to organize documents for searching.

    Repository

    Manage the repository and available security, universe, and document domains.

    Connections

    Add or maintain secure connections to data sources used in universes.

    Refresh

    Refresh the view. (Note: This doesn't work in 5.1.3.)

    or shift-f1

    Contextual Help

    Display contextual help.

  3. Enter a name for the user.

  4. Press F5 to refresh the list of groups and users or select View | Refresh.

    Note 

    Version 5.1.5 of Supervisor has a bug such that the new username is not displayed until you close and restart Supervisor; it is, however, immediately defined in the repository tables. Supervisor 5.1.6 corrects this problem.
