Summary

With BusinessObjects internal functions and SQL commands from your RDBMS, you can build powerful objects that make your universe more robust and business-oriented. In this part of the universe design and build process, it's important for SQL-savvy designers to have a close dialog with the business users. Just because a user did not specifically request an object, that doesn't mean users don't need the object; they simply may not realize it's possible and so easy to build.

While building advanced objects, you must constantly evaluate the impact on response time and user-friendliness. Certain objects may cause the RDBMS not to use a particular index to process a query. This is fine as long the RDBMS uses some other index. Objects with prompts and time-period intelligence may be incompatible with other objects and return unexpected query results. As the designer, be aware of these issues and ensure users understand when and how to use the objects to ensure accurate query results.
