Drilling within a report requires the software module Explorer. Use the drill functionality to explore data by additional levels of detail and different dimensions. Whereas a standard report may give you an overview of what is going on, multidimensional analysis helps you uncover why, when, and where. Use the Drill bar to navigate different dimensions and select different members within a hierarchy. Drill Up is only available in the pop-up menu. In drilling around a report, it’s important to understand how data is aggregated. As you explore the data, you may find that you need additional details not within the microcube. Use Scope of Analysis or Drill Through to retrieve additional information from the data source and re-execute the entire query. Scope of Analysis allows you to add new hierarchies to the query, whereas Drill Through allows you to add additional levels of detail within existing hierarchies. The universe designer sets the default drill path through the organization of objects within a class or through custom hierarchies. You can modify the drill path with the Hierarchy Editor.
