There are various distributions of Linux, some with their own unique file structure. Red Hat Linux, for example, uses .RPM files which cannot run under Lindows without being converted. In order to install them, you'll need to Click-N-Run a program called Alien. Alien will convert .RPM files to .DEB files that can be installed in Lindows.
Click on the Launch button. The Launch menu will appear.
Click on Programs . A submenu will appear.
Click on Utilities . Another submenu will appear.
Click on Console . The Console program will launch where you can convert your .RPM file to a .DEB file. In this example, let's say the .RPM file was called program.rpm.
Type alien program.rpm . This will convert the file program.rpm to program.deb.
Type dpkg -i program.deb . The program will be installed.
Note | Not all .RPM files will convert perfectly to .DEB files. If you have any problems during the installation, type the command apt-get -f install program.deb (where program.deb is the actual file name ) and your problems should be corrected. |
